2014 Events

Zero Waste workshop
Held on the 4th December 2014.

Held in conjunction with Banyule council, this free event featured Masterchef's Emma Dean and focused on reducing waste in the kitchen. Workshop participants learnt about being food-frugal, getting the most out of your pantry and repurposing leftovers into inspiring new meals.

Edible Weeds / Foraging workshop
Held on the 23rd August 2014.

Edible Weeds / Foraging Workshop with horticulturist Michelle Yang. Workshop participants learnt about edible weeds, bush foods, ornamental edibles (garden plants with edible parts) and other plant uses - fibre for baskets, string etc. Workshop made possible by funding provided through the Banyule Environmental Sustainability Grant.

Rocket Stove workshop
Held on the 3rd August 2014.

Hosted by Aaron Shipperlee and Mikoto Araki. Workshop participants learnt how to make a rocket stove - the stoves are highly efficient wood-fired cooking stoves used in developing countries. They are easy to make with recycled materials. Workshop made possible by funding provided through the Banyule Environmental Sustainability Grant.

Murundaka Info Session
Held on the 28th April 2014.

Held in conjunction with CEHL, this info session gave attendees information about the Common Equity Housing program and Murundaka Cohousing Community. There was a short Q&A at the end, followed by refreshments and informal chats with community members.

Garden Irrigation workshop
Held on the 23rd March 2014.

Hosted by Angelo Eilades and Mikoto Araki, workshop attendees learnt about installing and utilising drip line irrigation in your garden. Workshop participants had a chance to learn the theory (learning about how irrigation works and it's benefits) and then were able to get hands-on with installing a system in the garden at Murundaka. Workshop made possible by funding through the Banyule Environmental Sustainability Grant.

Asian Greens workshop
Held on the 15th March 2014.

Hosted by Seila Hierk and Mikoto Araki, workshop participants learnt about propogating, planting, growing and cooking Asian green vegetables. Participants were then treated to a delicious lunch incorporating freshly picked greens from the garden, expertly cooked by Japanese chef Mikoto. Workshop made possible by funding through the Banyule Environmental Sustainability Grant.

 

Living in Intentional Communities conference
Held on the 22nd February 2014.

Held in conjunction with the 14th Sustainable Living Festival, Living in Intentional Communities was a one-day conference featured talks and workshop sessions about cohousing and intentional communities. Conference attendees also enjoyed a home-cooked, seasonal, local lunch.

Summer Garden workshop
Held on the 4th January 2014.

Hosted by Seila Hierk and Mikoto Araki, workshop attendees learnt about managing your garden in the extreme heat of summer. Permaculturist Seila, took workshop attendees through Murundaka's garden and talking about summer management techniques including mulching, self-pollinating, crop management and pest control. Workshop made possible by funding through the Banyule Environmental Sustainability Grant.
